Under the Home Affairs performance plan, the digital ID’s hosting infrastructure is due to be finished by March 31, 2027, and citizens are to receive credentials through a mobile wallet during the 2027/28 financial year. The digital ID will be optional, and people will still be able to get the physical smart ID card.
