The system, called Abis (Automated Biometric Identification System), is used by various institutions in the public and private sectors where checking an identity against the national population register is important. The Department of Home Affairs' testing has confirmed that the upgraded system is not only capable of dramatically faster performance, but that it now delivers an error rate of well below 1%. The department is ready to roll out access to the upgraded verification service to all its valued clients across the public and private sectors.
