Cybersecurity experts discovered an open MongoDB database, with over a terabyte of data, accessible on the public internet. The records included full names, addresses, dates of birth, national IDs, phone numbers, and email addresses. While the total number of affected individuals is likely less than three billion due to duplicate entries, approximately one billion records are believed to contain sensitive data. The breach is global, with individuals from 26 countries impacted, including over 203 million records from the US, 124 million from Mexico, and 72 million from the Philippines. The potential downstream risks for affected individuals include account takeovers, targeted phishing, credit fraud, and SIM swaps.
