The Kenyan government plans to automate the issuance of national identity cards (IDs) to citizens upon reaching 18 years of age, leveraging existing birth data to streamline the process and enhance national security. Under the new system, eligible citizens will no longer need to apply for IDs but will instead collect their physical chip-IDs from designated government offices once they reach the age of majority. Passport processing times have been reduced to seven days, while ID acquisition now takes ten days.
