House Republicans Introduce Secure Data Act

2026-04-27  Per Henrikson

The two bills address distinct but related domains. The SECURE Data Act covers how technology companies handle consumer data, while the GUARD Financial Data Act modernizes the 1999 Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act governing financial institutions' data practices. Both bills would require companies to limit data collection to what is necessary, give consumers the right to access and delete their data, and mandate opt-in consent for sensitive data processing.
