EU braces to harmonization of EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) starting July 10, 2027

2026-02-19  Per Henrikson

The 2027 ALMR will replace a patchwork of national laws with a "Single Rulebook" that applies directly across all Member States. Central to this reform is the newly established Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA), which will directly supervise high-risk financial institutions and ensure uniform enforcement. The regulation introduces a strict €10,000 EU-wide cap on cash payments for business transactions and standardizes the "beneficial owner" threshold at 25%. It also significantly broadens the scope of "obliged entities" to include all crypto-asset service providers, luxury goods traders, and even professional football clubs. Overall, these measures aim to close regulatory gaps and harmonize Customer Due Diligence (CDD) requirements to better combat financial crime.
