The deal expands Checkr beyond background screening into mortgage verification and marks its first entry into government benefits eligibility verification. Truv connects directly to payroll providers and financial institutions, giving lenders and government agencies access to source-system data rather than manual documentation. Checkr cited income fraud as responsible for nearly half of fraud findings in Fannie Mae investigations. Truv already works with state agencies administering Medicaid and SNAP, where the verification challenge is significant: Checkr cited an estimated $186 billion in improper government payments in the prior year. The combination reduces the number of separate verification systems organizations need for high-stakes decisions, consolidating payroll, bank, self-employment, education, and volunteer activity verification alongside Checkr's existing background screening products.
